Industrial Wireless Water Detection Sensor for Hazardous Environments
Wireless Water Detection Sensor for Hazardous Environments C1D2
NCD’s new C1D2 certified long range wireless water detection sensors offer the an industry first for long range wireless IoT sensors designed specifically for use in hazardous environments. With C1D2 Group A, B, C, and D certification, this long range wireless water detection sensor is specified for use in hazardous environments where potentially explosive gasses, dust, fibers, or flammable vapors may be present. This includes hazardous gases and vapors that may contain Acetylene, Hydrogen, Ether, Ethyl, Ethelene, Gasoline, Acetone, Ammonia, Benzene, Butane, Methanol, and Propane. NCD’s C1D2 certified sensors are the only long range wireless products available on the market today that may be used in chemical plants, oil and gas refineries, paint shops, cleaning facilities, mills, flour silos, mining, and loading facilities for flammable gases, liquids, and solids.
With an integrated antenna and up to a 2-mile range using a wireless mesh networking architecture, this sensor incorporates a 900MHz 128-Bit AES encrypted transceiver that sends data at user-defined intervals over long distances to a wireless gateway. This IoT Water Detection Sensor goes to sleep between transmissions to minimize power consumption and prolong battery life, waking about every 15 minutes to provide the gateway with an update. This device also wakes up from sleep if a change is detected on the sensor inputs, such as a wet or dry condition. This ensures the sensor stays in regular contact with the gateway while also providing alerts to a newly detected wet or dry condition. Up to 10 years of battery life may be achieved depending on environmental conditions and the transmission interval you choose.
NCD Industrial IoT Wireless Water Detect sensor works like a Wireless push notification transmitter, making it easy to receive alerts when water is detected. This Long Range Industrial IoT Wireless Water Detection sensor comes with a water detection probe attached to a 4.5 Meter cable, sending a transmission if a wet or dry condition is detected. Receive an alert when a water is detected on a dry sensor or receive another alert when when a wet sensor becomes dry. This Industrial IoT Wireless Water Detection sensor device is ideally used in water leak detection applications that need a reliable long-range wireless communications. Use this sensor to prevent potential water damages in buildings or to monitor drainage of critical areas.
This sensor is typically used to detect a flood state or a low water condition. Applications for this sensor include the detection of flood conditions due to water intrusion, leaky water heaters, leaky valves, fittings, or broken pipes due to water freezing conditions. This sensor is ideal for applications that require water detection to protect sensitive assets such as garage floors, machinery, factory floors, and other moisture ingress sensitive applications.
This Industrial wireless water detection sensor is designed to consume extremely low power and send data at extremely long distances of up to 2 miles with an integrated antenna. Powered by just 6 AA batteries with a operational lifetime of 500,000 wireless transmissions, you can expect to achieve up to 10 years of battery life depending on environmental conditions and the transmission interval you choose.
The NCD Long Range Industrial Wireless IoT Water Detection Sensor has one of the longest ranges, longest battery life, and best security features on the market today. NCD is the only manufacturer of a complete ecosystem of C1D2 certified long range wireless sensors with an open protocol for integration into any software system. To help get you started, use a NCD Gateway running Node-RED to receive and decode the long range wireless transmissions generated by this sensor. Use Node-RED to patch into any cloud platform with minimal programming. Communicate to your own MQTT server or use a common IoT platform such as AWS® and Microsoft Azure®. Node-RED offers the flexibility to handle just about any cloud platform imaginable or keep your data on your own server without using a 3rd party ecosystem. NCD wireless sensor protocols allow you to keep data secure and private or integrate with any cloud platform of your choice!
Usage Notes: This sensor works by measuring the conductivity between the sensor probes. Conductivity based sensors are unable to detect water that is highly purified. The workaround for this application is to apply salt under the sensor to allow conductivity.
Transmission Interval
This device sends data periodically, based on user-preset timing intervals.
This device sends data when a change on the input is detected.
By default, this sensor sends a status update every 15 minutes.
What is Class 1 Division 2 Certification?
Class 1, Division 2 is a hazardous location rating system that indicates where flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust may be present. It also specifies the types of technology that are safe to use in these environments. Class 1, Division 2 locations are places where flammable liquids or gases are used, processed, or handled. These liquids or gases are usually kept in closed systems or containers, and can only escape if the systems or containers deteriorate or rupture. Under normal operating conditions, a Class 1, Division 2 location shouldn’t have an explosive atmosphere, but it may occur briefly during maintenance or repair activities, or if a container or vessel accidentally ruptures.
Class 1, Division 2 equipment must meet strict hazardous location rating requirements to ensure it can safely operate in these environments. This compliance can help improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of accidents. Select NCD sensors are Class 1, Division 2 certified for hazardous environments and can prevent ignition in atmospheres that may contain explosive gases or vapors.
NCD C1D2 Certified Sensors are certified for use in groups A, B, C, and D. A list of groups and their associated environments are listed below.
Group A contains only acetylene.
Group B includes hydrogen, gases with more than 30% hydrogen by volume, butadiene, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
Group C includes acetaldehyde, cyclopropane, diethyl ether, and dimethyl hydrazine.
Group D includes gasoline, acetone, ammonia, benzene, butane, methane, propane, alcohols and other more commonly encountered compounds.

Not for use in outdoor applications or for use in excessive temperature conditions. Prolonged freezing will prevent batteries from functioning until thawed, using extended temperature range industrial batteries may improve the useful temperature range. Extended freezing applications should use a full-time powered solution. Prolonged exposure to extreme humidity conditions may damage this device. Exposure to high temperatures may cause the batteries to leak, causing permanent damage to this device. NCD Warranty does not cover battery corrosion or use in excessively smoky environments under any circumstances.
Tested and verified for use with NCD Micro Gateway Products.
