Hazardous Environment Long Range Wireless IoT Air Quality Sensor with C1D2 Certification
NCD’s C1D2 certified long-range wireless sensor is engineered for comprehensive environmental monitoring, designed for hazardous environments. This advanced sensor measures temperature, humidity, pressure, air quality (IAQ), volatile organic compounds (VOC), and CO2 equivalent levels, making it an ideal solution for industrial, chemical, and explosive risk environments.
Certified under C1D2 Group A, B, C, and D, this sensor is suitable for use in areas where potentially explosive gases, dust, fibers, or flammable vapors are present, such as acetylene, hydrogen, gasoline, and propane. Industries such as oil and gas refineries, chemical plants, and mills can greatly benefit from its precise data collection and reliability.
Precision Performance
This sensor is built to provide highly accurate measurements with a range of precise specifications:
Humidity:
- Accuracy: ±3% relative humidity
- Resolution: ≤1.5% relative humidity
Pressure:
- RMS Noise: 0.12 Pa (equivalent to 1.7 cm)
- Sensitivity Error: ±0.25% (equivalent to 1 m at 400 m height change)
- Temperature Coefficient Offset: ±1.3 Pa/K (equivalent to ±10.9 cm at 1°C temperature change)
Temperature:
- RMS Noise: 0.12 Pa (equivalent to 1.7 cm)

Long-Range and Secure Wireless Communication
With a range of up to 2 miles, this sensor transmits data wirelessly via a 900MHz 128-bit AES encrypted transceiver. User-defined transmission intervals allow it to conserve power, achieving up to 500,000 wireless transmissions on 6 AA batteries, with a potential battery life of up to 10 years, depending on environmental conditions and transmission frequency.
Versatile Integration and Cloud Connectivity
The sensor integrates seamlessly with NCD’s wireless gateways using Node-RED, providing flexible connectivity to cloud platforms like AWS® and Microsoft Azure®. Its open protocol ensures easy integration with any software system, making it adaptable for various IoT-driven applications.
Applications:
- Hazardous Location Environmental Monitoring
- Factory and Warehouse Climate Control
- Oil and Gas Industry
- Storage Unit and Crawl Space Monitoring
- Medical and Hospital Air Quality Monitoring
NCD’s C1D2 certified environmental sensor offers industry-leading accuracy, safety, and long-range performance, making it an essential tool for monitoring hazardous environments.
What is Class 1 Division 2 Certification?
Class 1, Division 2 is a hazardous location rating system that indicates where flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust may be present. It also specifies the types of technology that are safe to use in these environments. Class 1, Division 2 locations are places where flammable liquids or gases are used, processed, or handled. These liquids or gases are usually kept in closed systems or containers, and can only escape if the systems or containers deteriorate or rupture. Under normal operating conditions, a Class 1, Division 2 location shouldn’t have an explosive atmosphere, but it may occur briefly during maintenance or repair activities, or if a container or vessel accidentally ruptures.
Class 1, Division 2 equipment must meet strict hazardous location rating requirements to ensure it can safely operate in these environments. This compliance can help improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of accidents. Select NCD sensors are Class 1, Division 2 certified for hazardous environments and can prevent ignition in atmospheres that may contain explosive gases or vapors.
NCD C1D2 Certified Sensors are certified for use in groups A, B, C, and D. A list of groups and their associated environments are listed below.
Group A contains only acetylene.
Group B includes hydrogen, gases with more than 30% hydrogen by volume, butadiene, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
Group C includes acetaldehyde, cyclopropane, diethyl ether, and dimethyl hydrazine.
Group D includes gasoline, acetone, ammonia, benzene, butane, methane, propane, alcohols and other more commonly encountered compounds.

Compatibility Notes
When using an 900HP-S3B communication module, it is essential that you use the ZIGMO_PCB to configure the module settings. Long-Range wireless sensors may be programmed over the air without removing the communications module.
A 900HP-S3B Modem or a gateway of some kind that support the 900HP-S3B communications module will also be required.
