Contact Closure Push Notification for MQTT over WiFi
NCD set out to build an easy to use and highly reliable push notification board that integrates easily into any MQTT application. What we’ve come up with is a high accuracy, high reliability, and easy to use WiFi enabled Contact Closure Push Notification able to connect and transmit to any MQTT Broker. This product integrates two contact closures inputs capable of detecting the outputs of any device that outputs contact closure. This includes many types of generators, current sensors, magnetic detection sensors, buttons, switches, and many other devices. Once the Contact Closure Push Notification Sensor detects a change to either input it will immediately publish to MQTT as well as publishing to MQTT on interval.
This Contact Closure Push Notification for MQTT over WiFi was developed to work with any MQTT Broker. As one of the world’s most popular IoT protocols, MQTT is an essential, easy to use tool for viewing data from a wireless sensor device. Monitor Contact Closures with MQTT.fx
MQTT.fx is an application that can stream sensor data from a MQTT Broker. This simple feature as shown to the right provides effortless temperature and humidity sensor data monitoring. Customize how this data is displayed in JSON format when configuring the sensor.
Another useful feature of the MQTT.fx application, a cloud update topic, allows the user to configure settings using JSON formatted commands. This can be done in the open application and while the sensor is transmitting data, saving the time and effort of repeating the sensor setup process each time a setting needs to be changed.
The interval of transmission can be updated by publishing the following JSON command to the cloud update topic: {“interval”:2000}. This happens to be what was done in the visual to the right. After this command is given, new temperature and humidity data from the sensor is displayed every 2 seconds.
Transmission Interval
This device sends data periodically based on user-preset timing intervals. As this sensor does not use batteries, the transmission interval does not need adjusted with the intention to save battery life.
Security
At NCD, security always remains a top priority when developing new products. Therefore, this MQTT WiFi Sensor contains both WiFi and MQTT security protocols.

The security features that are accommodated by this WiFi MQTT Sensor are compatible with almost all IoT servers available. When configuring the sensor through the MQTT web interface, you are presented multiple options for increasing the security of your device such as a Soft AP username and password. Utilizing features like this are recommended as it adds one more layer of security to your WiFi sensor.

Sensor Setup
Upon connecting to a MQTT WiFi Sensor, the NCD Web Interface will automatically open and be displayed. This easy-to-use interface allows for configuration of the MQTT Sensor over WiFi in one simple step without any software download or complicated set up procedure.
Using the product user guide for reference, the user can choose which network the device will connect to, create a password to be able to access the device, and customize the MQTT settings. These MQTT settings include server settings, client settings, and message settings.

Not for use in outdoor applications or for use in excessive temperature conditions. Prolonged exposure to extreme humidity conditions may damage this device. The sensing element is rated for use for 5 years and may be replaced. NCD Warranty does not cover use in excessively smoky environments under any circumstances.
