WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter for MQTT
NCD set out to build the world’s best WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter for MQTT. In doing so, NCD now incorporates Contact Closure Inputs with a WiFi module and control board. This transmitter works by sending data as soon as it detects an open or closed contact (any change on input) and will transmit data directly to a MQTT Broker where you can access it over a WiFi connection, through the MQTT.fx application. This IoT WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter for MQTT is ideally used in security applications that need a reliable wireless dry contact transmission.
NCD IoT WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact transmitters make it easy to receive alerts when doors are opened or buttons are pressed. This IoT WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter will send a transmission if any state of the inputs change. Receive an alert when a button is pressed, receive another alert when the button is released.
This IoT WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter for MQTT is was developed to work with any MQTT Broker. As one of the world’s most popular IoT protocols, MQTT is an essential tool for monitoring a wireless sensor device. Therefore, connectivity of the NCD ecosystem of IoT wireless sensors remains a top priority for the NCD engineering team.
When it comes to WiFi Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitters, nothing compares to the ease of use, low price, high accuracy, operational temperature range, or security features offered at NCD. Note that this sensor will need to be externally powered and is capable of using a 6-32VDC power supply.
To begin, access the product user guide under resources to learn how to use MQTT and this sensor in conjunction.
Applications
- Notifications when a door opens or closes
- Alerts when a button is pressed on or off (input change)
- Security Monitoring Systems
- Push Notification Dry Contact Transmitter for Device Control Applications
- Wireless Digital Input Monitoring for MQTT
Detect Input changes with MQTT.fx
MQTT.fx is an application used for streaming sensor data from a MQTT Broker. This simple feature as shown to the right allows effortless monitoring of dry contact closure transmitter data. Customize how this data is displayed in JSON format when configuring the sensor.
Another useful feature of the MQTT.fx application, a Settings Topic, allows the configuration of sensor settings using JSON formatted commands. This can be done in the open application and while the sensor is transmitting data, saving the time and effort of repeating the sensor setup process each time a setting needs changed.
Update the interval of transmission by publishing the following JSON command to the cloud update topic: {“interval”:2000}. This happens to be what was done in the visual to the right. After entering this command, new data from the transmitter is displayed every 2 seconds if the input changes.
Transmission Interval
This device sends data periodically based on user-preset timing intervals. As this sensor does not use batteries, the transmission interval does not need adjusted with the intention to save battery life.
Security
At NCD, security always remains a top priority when developing new products. Therefore, this MQTT WiFi Sensor contains both WiFi and MQTT security protocols.
WiFi Security Features:
- WPA/WPA2/WPA2-Enterprise WiFi Security Protocols
- IEEE-802.11B/G/N WiFi Protocols
- DHCP or Static IP Managed Wireless Networks
MQTT Broker Security Types:
- TLS
- Basic AUTH
- OPEN
The security features that are accommodated by this WiFi MQTT Sensor are compatible with almost all IoT servers available. When configuring the sensor through the MQTT web interface, you are presented multiple options for increasing the security of your device such as a Soft AP username and password. Utilizing features like this are recommended as it adds one more layer of security to your WiFi sensor.
IoT Security should be taken very seriously. This is why NCD implements the best security features with our products. Be sure to check out the product user guide listed under the Resources Tab to learn more about how to configure the settings on your device.
Sensor Setup
Upon connecting to a MQTT WiFi Sensor, the NCD Web Interface will automatically open and be displayed. This easy-to-use interface allows for configuration of the MQTT Sensor over WiFi in one simple step without any software download or complicated set up procedure.
Using the product user guide for reference, the user can choose which network the device will connect to, create a password to be able to access the device, and customize the MQTT settings. These MQTT settings include server settings, client settings, and message settings.
