In our opinion, the only thing the Raspberry Pi 4, Pi 3 and Pi 2 are truly lacking is an I2C port. (Of course you may have guessed by looking at our product offerings, we are admittedly a little biased. No worries.) The XPI is a non-invasive I2C adapter complete with level shifter providing you with a 5V I2C port for use with ANY of our I2C devices. The I2C port points outward toward the outside edge of the board, and terminates directly above the HDMI port. The XPI does not consume the 40-pin expansion port, as it is equipped with a pass-through connector, freeing the 40-pin connector for other purposes, making it a truly non-invasive design.
Add communications to your Raspberry Pi 2, 3 & 4, greatly expanding communication options. Expand your Raspberry Pi to include industrial wireless options from Digi.com, such as ZigBee, 802.15.4, or our favorite Industrial wireless: S3B. The XPI is also compatible with other communication modules, such as USB, RS-232, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Ethernet. The XPI overlay shield allows connection to a wide variety of communication modules to your Raspberry Pi 2, 3 & 4.
NOTE: The XPI adapter provides a power solution as well as TX and RX data connections to the Raspberry Pi 2, 3, & 4. No other communications pins are mapped to the Raspberry Pi 2, 3, & 4.
nodeLynk™ Master Adapter
This is a nodeLynk Master adapter. nodeLynk Master adapters speak to a chain of nodeLynk devices using I2C communications.
What is nodeLynk?
Chain expansion devices using nodeLynk. Connect a wide variety of accessories to expand the capabilities of a nodeLynk compatible controller. Use nodeLynk to add Relay Controllers, Sensors, PWM Drivers, Displays, and a wide variety of 4-20mA, 0-10V ADCs and DACs, as well as a wide array of TTL & Isolated GPIO devices. All nodeLynk devices use I2C communications to chain devices together. nodeLynk is an easy way to expand functionality without soldering. nodeLynk allows expansion in seconds so you can focus on your software and firmware development.

Documentation
This adapter provides a general-purpose I2C port, compatible with our complete line of I2C devices. Control relays, monitor current, and read just about any kind of sensor you can imagine. This adapter should be used with Raspberry Pi 2 & 3 only.
NCD manufactures and stocks many Communication Modules making it easy to adapt our products to just about any application. For the most part, all modules we manufacture are interchangeable. NCD devices that support a communications module interface socket are generally compatible with communication modules manufactured by other companies as well. We have chosen Digi XBeeⓇ and XBee ProⓇ series controllers as our favorite wireless option communication modules for industrial applications. USB and RS-232 communication modules remain a favorite for applications that require wire access. The Lantronix XPort module supports TCP/IP, making it easy to add Ethernet to your next project.
